About WSCA: WSCA Portsmouth Community Radio went on air in 2004 and has grown over the past 18 years into a community project in the truest sense with the unique ability to connect all facets of our vibrant community.
Run by a diverse and dedicated group of residents, 106.1 WSCA-LP Portsmouth Community Radio is an outlet for many voices, showcasing a wide variety of interests and offerings and fosters a vital and creative environment for Seacoast artists and arts organizations as well as enhancing cultural opportunities for residents and visitors.
Music acts:
Myles Burr & The Last Straws - Myles Burr is a poet and spoken word artist based in Portsmouth, NH. In 2020, he released his first book, Therapy Is Expensive So I Wrote This Book Instead. His other publication credits include six self published chapbooks and works in four poetry anthologies. As a performing artist, Myles has embarked on two national tours, and has just returned from a stint in the American Southwest. He also has two monthly residencies – supporting and showcasing established and emerging poets in the Seacoast.
Most recently, Myles has been performing with his backing band, The Last Straws. They have just finished recording an EP, to be released in late April. Myles Burr & The Last Straws have been compared to bands like Soul Coughing, Cake, & The Fall. They blend musical genres and spoken word into a visceral and thought provoking experience.
Rick Rude - Local Legends Rick Rude have been a major player in the Seacoast music scene since the early 2010's. They have played at the Button Factory countless times rocking the roof right off. Within the past year they have toured with bands like 'Washer', 'Lady Pill', and many other indie rock artists. They are some of the nicest folks you'll meet, and some of the best tunes you'll hear.
Ezra Cohen & The Big City Band - Ezra Cohen has been a major player in the resurgence of the local music scene. He has been involved in it along with Rick Rude since he was able to start rocking. Ezra brings a mix of Americana, West, and indie rock in an incredibly full sound. His most recent release "The Sweetest Million" has been the talk of the local music scene since its 2022 release.
Comedian:
Lloyd Legacy Sharp can best be described as a force. A Boston native who's seen it all and has plenty to say about it, his comedy is loaded with an infectious positivity and whiplash punchlines that give audiences everywhere no choice but to get on for the ride. He also does a mean Michael Jackson impression—ask him about it sometime.
WSCA is a recipient of the 3S Artspace Community Use Grant. The grant was developed in 2020 by 3S Artspace in direct response to the persisting challenges non-profits face in reaching their audience and mission goals, particularly during the pandemic.
