The Caretaker:
Below the summit, at the doorstep of Huntington Ravine, sits The Harvard Cabin — a remote respite for ice climbers and backcountry skiers to escape the elements. This film is an ode to the Caretakers that care for it, the men of Harvard that built it, and the mountaineers that rely on it. “The Caretaker" follows the story of Jack Kingsley, a solitary and enigmatic man who has chosen to live this reclusive life. Embracing the serene isolation, Jack spends his days meticulously observing and documenting the snowfall, weather patterns, and wildlife in the area.
As a passionate backcountry skier, Jack harnesses the untouched powder as his canvas to create breathtaking lines on the vast, untouched slopes. His intimate knowledge of the terrain and his close relationship with nature allow him to navigate the treacherous landscape with grace and skill. With stunning cinematography capturing the raw beauty of the untamed wilderness, “The Caretaker" explores themes of self-discovery, human connection, and the profound impact of the natural world on the human spirit.
About Caldor:
The summer of 2021 turned California into an inferno. Years of relentless drought culminated in the largest wildfires in the state's history. The Caldor Fire ravaged the Sierra Nevada, destroying homes, ski resorts, and everything in its path. As the fire closed in on Lake Tahoe, professional skier Josh Daiek and the local community were forced to abandon their homes and possessions. No one could have foreseen the extent of the destruction or the profound impact the fire would have on their lives. A year later, just as the community began to recover, tragedy struck again, leaving Josh to grapple with renewed loss and uncertainty. This film delves into the heartache of saying goodbye to your home, cherished friends, and the beloved forest that served as your playground.
